Direct Cremations FAQ – Thames Direct Cremation

Below are the most frequently asked questions from families considering a direct cremation in the Thames area. We hope this provides guidance and reassurance — and we are always here to answer any further questions.

1. What is a direct cremation?

A direct cremation is a simple, dignified and cost-effective alternative to a traditional funeral.
There is no funeral service and no attendees at the crematorium. Your loved one is cared for locally and cremated with respect, and their ashes are returned to you in a simple container. This gives families the freedom to hold a personal farewell, memorial, or celebration of life at a later time.

2. Why might someone choose a direct cremation?
3. How much does a direct cremation cost?
4. What areas do you serve?
5. What’s included in the service?
6. What is not included?
7. How do I arrange a direct cremation?
8. Can I visit my loved one before the cremation?

Our private mortuary is a clinical facility approved by The Good Funeral Guide and is not designed as a chapel of rest. However, should you wish to spend time with your loved one, we hire a private chapel. An additional fee of £295 will apply.

9. What happens to the ashes after the cremation?
10. How quickly does the cremation take place?
